In Chinese medicine the back of your neck is where a cold first starts. It’s where the cold wind can get into the circulatory system and damage the warming effect of your body. When cold comes, muscles contract. You get tight, sore back of the neck.
A stiff neck is often the first sign of a cold in Chinese medicine
protect your neck and avoid winter neck pain by:
- wear a scarf, jacket with collar
- stay out of direct air conditioning or fan or wind breeze blowing on your neck and face directly. if you really can’t avoid it use your scarf or jacket to protect your neck
- careful of sleeping in a draft or getting hot at night, kicking off your blankets and then being exposed to the cold night air. If that happens you might wake up with a stiff neck.
If you do get a stiff neck, you can try rubbing a warming liniment on it – like a deep heat, dencorub or omething you make yourself. Join us in day 5 for how to make a warming liniment.
